We are Hiring an Equipment Operator/Compost Production Assistant

​Do you like working with tractors and loaders? Come join Earth Care Farm in enlivening the soils of New England! We are a diverse, family farm in Charlestown, RI with a focus on making high quality, organic compost. Living soil is the foundation of health for plants, our planet and our bodies. It is our role at Earth Care Farm to enliven the soils of our community.
The Earth Care Farm Equipment Operator will be working closely with the Head of Compost Operations and the farm owners to produce our high quality organic compost and soil blends.  The operator will be responsible for all phases of compost production, with an emphasis on payloader work turning the mountains of compost, as well as equipment maintenance and some customer service.  Willing to train the right person, we are looking for someone to become part of our close-knit family operation. The ideal candidate is a hardworking individual who has some experience with farm machinery, is eager to learn, and has an interest in composting.
Responsibilities
Compost Production
Learn the art and science of Earth Care Farm compost production
Turning compost piles (payloader)
Loading trucks and trailers (tractor and backhoe)
Loading and unloading trailers (skidsteer)
Screening Mixing soil blends
Bagging bulk bags/ small bags
Maintenance and repair of all equipment
Payloaders, tractors, pumps, bagger, mowers, small engines
Inventory, order, pickup all supplies necessary for production and maintenance
Assist in repairs to structures on property such as bays, bagging barn, high tunnel, etc 
Customer service
Load trucks and trailers for customers picking up compost.
Deliver compost to residential homes and garden centers.
Be able to answer frequently asked questions
Qualifications 
Some familiarity with large equipment and machinery Reliable and Responsible
Comfortable working alone in a loader for long stretches of time
Team mentality and being open to the various tasks that arise on a small family farm
Hardworking and proficient with initiative to problem solve and improve farm efficiency
Able to take instruction and willing to ask questions 
Clean driving record and current driver’s license
Positive attitude
Appreciation for the natural environment
Comfort working closely with members of a family farm with respect for their home and guests
Compensation
The starting salary will be dependent on experience (between $20-26/hr) with some benefits after 6 months.  
This is a full time 40 hours per week,  plus the occasional half day on Saturdays, overtime pay (during our busy seasons) 
This is a non-exempt hourly position.
Monday - Friday 7:45-4:15

Benefits include contribution towards health insurance, 401K match after one year employment, compost and produce
